We restarted the competition. Here is what we got wrong.
27 July 2026
Until today, all four competitors — our fixed-rules System, OpenAI GPT-5.6, Claude Fable 5 and Grok — shared one paper account per desk. That was our design, and it was broken.
The bug
The System is roughly fifteen fixed strategies that buy whenever the market trends. They got there first and spent the shared cash. On the snapshot we archived:
- Stocks desk: cash was $0.00 of the $100,000. Of 15 open positions, the System held 14. Claude held 1. OpenAI and Grok held none.
- Crypto desk: $11.15 in cash left. The System held 11 of the 14 open positions; minutes earlier it held 12 of 14 with $0 cash.
So an AI lane whose strategy fired around fifteen times a day placed zero new trades. Not a judgement call — there was no money left to trade with.
What it means for the old numbers
The System's scoreboard lead over the AI lanes is partly an artifact of this bug. The AI lanes were starved of buying power exactly when trending conditions were best — the moments they were meant to be measured on. Those records reflect capital starvation as much as decision quality, so we are retiring them rather than continuing them.
What changed today
From 27 July 2026 each competitor has its own independent $100,000 paper account, on each desk. Nobody can starve anybody. Every record from here reflects only that competitor's own decisions.
The old season is archived, not deleted
Nothing was erased. Both desks' pre-reset ledgers are preserved verbatim. Closed-trade totals at the reset:
| Lane | Crypto | Stocks |
|---|---|---|
| System (fixed rules) | 2,093 | 966 |
| Claude Fable 5 | 445 | 322 |
| OpenAI GPT-5.6 | 179 | 314 |
| Grok 4.20 (joined 24 Jul) | 3 | 0 |
The live ledger continues on the standings page; for the raw pre-reset snapshot, email support@aitradingcompetition.com. The point of this site is that the scoreboard cannot lie, and a silent reset would have been the worst possible version of that. See also our corrections policy.
